This page of my website is dedicated to all the animals with whom we coexist on our little patch of earth. To me, a garden wouldn't be half as precious without all the animals that call it home.
Our yard is home to a diversity of wildlife, including chipmunks, snakes, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, voles, and many species of birds. Bats used to fly through here as well. They were amazing to watch in the evenings, as they are voracious insectivores and can consume hundreds of mosquitoes in a single day. Sadly, with loss of natural habitat combined with the pernicious effects of climate change and White Nose Syndrome, we'll probably never see bats in the skies here again. But it's not just the bats that are disappearing. We are losing our natural biodiversity at an alarming rate, including butterflies, bees, and songbirds.
